1. Who takes your photos?
I take the vast majority of my own photos in my home studio. Sometimes when the weather permits I ask my partner Dave to help me on location. For style posts I use a tripod and remote shutter control. Anytime a post features photos by a photographer other than myself I will make a note. I use a Canon Rebel T5i and alternate between a 50mm lens and 18-55mm lens.
2. Do you blog for a living?
While I would love to be able to work on Style Bee full time, it is currently a side project. I have been working in the design and advertising industry for the past 7 years after graduating from OCADU in Toronto.
3. Why start another style blog?
In the spring of 2013, when Style Bee began, this was one of the first questions I asked myself. Fashion blogs, in particular, can feel excessive and frivolous in their approach to consumerism and I saw an opportunity to share a different approach to shopping and building a closet. I also felt there was space in the Canadian blogging arena for someone with an aesthetic that focuses on quality, comfort and simplicity, which is what I strive to do.
4. Where are you located?
After spending the better part of a decade in Toronto I now live with Dave and our two furry children (Evie the feline and Dobby the canine) in the city of Guelph, Ontario.
5. What size are you?
I am 0-2, small, and size 26 in jeans. I am 5’7” and approximately 120 lbs.
6. Do you accept free product or payment in exchange for features?
Yes, if I feel a brand shares my values and aligns with the aesthetic I aim to achieve on Style Bee I will accept product and, in some cases payment, in exchange for a post. I work hard to only feature brands that I feel my readers would be genuinely interested in and that I myself would otherwise shop from. Please see more on Style Bee policies here.
7. What makes your style unique?
I think it’s a combination of keeping things simple, comfortable and classic. I try to focus my budget on pieces for both my closet and home that I will be able to enjoy for years to come with smatterings of fun, unique items that set a look apart.
8. Do you use Photoshop?
Yes. I use photoshop as my primary image editing tool. Typically editing involves image sizing, slight exposure adjustments, colour correction and occasionally the removal of undesired lint and/or dog hair. I do not alter my body or facial features in any way, EVER! How the clothes look in the photo is how they look in real life.
