T-SWEATER TWO WAYS (& A DISCOUNT!)

08.23.19

And just like that, Friday is back! This one is particularly exciting because I’ve partnered with my pals at Jamie + The Jones to show how I’m styling my beloved T-Sweater and to share a special reader discount! I’ve had this woven wonder in my closet for nearly 4 years now and each time I wear it I’m reminded of how special it is.

Jamie + The Jones has been a long-time favourite of mine for their incredible fabrics, stunning sweaters, unique shapes and always thoughtful production. Check out our first collaboration in 2016 right here (or last years Wide-Leg Pant & Haori review).

At the core of Jamie + the Jones is one simple philosophy, Create beautiful garments we want to live in + support textile traditions that we love.‘ and this sentiment has been sewn into every garment that leaves their Nashville, TN studio. I’m so happy to be working with the brand’s co-founders Jamie and Hannah again and so appreciate the hard work they put into their business.

Read on to see how I’m wearing my T-Sweater now and later this fall, plus all the best looks I’ve created with J+J faves over the years.

T-SWEATER FOR NOW

I love pairing my T-Sweater with a comfy linen pant, French tucked across the front with the sleeves pushed up. The unique and elegant shape of the sweater makes a statement without any extra effort needed. The beautiful nubbly texture makes it so soft and cozy, while the open weave keeps it breathable for warm afternoons.

In this case I went for an earthy colour palette of cream, olive and acorn browns. I love all the textures that are mixing in this look too. The organic waffle fabric is like a magnified linen and then the beaded bag and woven leather mule amplify this quality even further. It feels perfect for early autumn as the leaves begin to turn and the breeze hints at cooler days ahead.

I’ll be wearing this one for just about anything a typical day might call for. Whether it’s rolling up my sleeves for a creative project, assembling props for a shoot, planning my calendar, running errands, coffee dates or just taking the pup for a long stroll around the neighbourhood, I’m all set!

I usually just wear a sporty bralette (like this) under my T-Sweater, but when it’s a bit chilly I wear a fitted tank, bodysuit or scoop-neck tee to cut out any draft.

T-SWEATER FOR FALL

I know this sweater can do casual looks no problem, so for later this fall I wanted to see if I could create a look that’s a little more structured and polished.

I decided to layer the T-Sweater over a long-sleeved crew with the sleeves rolled slightly so the bottom cuffs could peek out (ie: my favourite fall styling trick). Then for the bottom half of the look I pulled on a pair of opaque black tights and a slightly fitted black skirt to balance the oversized feel of the sweater. I added a few sleek leather accessories via my Boss boots, classic brown belt and soft grey mini tote.

Sometimes the outfits I have in my head don’t always come together as well in real life but this one definitely exceeded my expectations. I really like how it feels put-together but still easy-going and comfortable enough for all sorts of autumnal adventures. I definitely can’t wait to wear it!

On proper chilly fall days I usually layer the T-Sweater over a fitted long-sleeve or turtleneck and if it’s windy I’ll add a knitted beanie and a chunky scarf.

A FEW T-SWEATER UPDATES

I have an older version of the T-Sweater and it has since been updated and improved. Here’s how…

FABRIC WEAVE: The closest current option (linked throughout this post) is the Mid-Weight T-Sweater, which has a slightly tighter weave and heavier weight than my version shown here. This update makes it a bit more seasonally appropriate and helps to maintain its shape a bit more. There is also a Heavy-Weight T-Sweater with a thicker woven fabric available for pre-order (included in the discount!).

NECKLINE: The current J+J sweaters are all finished with bias binding around the neck, which keeps the neck from stretching out and feels great on the shoulders. They also have a fun colourful label instead of the original black & white.

SIZING: I bought mine when there were fewer sizes available but now the T-Sweater comes in sizes XS through 3XL with a 3″ extended length option. If I was ordering a new one I would opt for a Small, Regular, which would be a bit slimmer fitting that the S/M I have but still quite relaxed.

Have you tried the Linen Andy or your Silk Florence Pants with your Aquatalia boots? I have been curious about transitioning those pieces into winter.

Love how you’ve styled this sweater! Although it’s not in my budget right now, you’ve given me ideas to consider with pieces I currently have. Two questions for you: Are the tights that you linked truly opaque? I find many opaque tights aren’t thick enough to wear with shorter skirts or tunics because they just don’t provide absolute full coverage. How does the Everlane tee shirt fit you? Close to the body? What is the sleeve length like? Trying to figure out a size, as I think this would make a great layering piece when a tank top just isn’t enough. TIA 🙂

Thanks Kathleen, so glad the post gave you some ideas 🙂 Two answers for you 😛

1 – Yes these tights are 100 denier so they are fully opaque. That said, they are still tights not leggings so there may be a hint of show through when you bend your knees and the fabric is fully extended. I’d personally feel totally comfortable wearing them with a short skirt or tunic. They are extremely comfortable!

2 – I wear a size S in the Micro Rib Long-Sleeve and LOVE the fit. Small is my usual size in Everlane pieces. It fits close to the body but not too clingy. You will be able to tell better in this post where I talk about the scoop-neck version. I’ve also washed my micro rib tees a ton and they hold their shape and size very well. I usually air dry but have tumble dried on low once or twice by mistake.

      Hope that helps!! xo
