Style Bee - Activewear For Everyday

ACTIVEWEAR FOR EVERYDAY

08.08.18

It’s always a bit surreal to come out on the other side of a 10×10 Challenge. I often find myself thinking, “Did that really just happen?” because the days absolutely fly by. I don’t know about you, but I usually end up finally finding a rhythm with it and then, just like that, it’s done! I had a blast, as always, with this the #Summer10x10 and it was so fun to switch things up and focus on a new area of my closet for a change. My activewear capsule is coming together really well and I found that the challenge helped to solidify workout time into my daily routine. If you missed it, you can catch up on my Summer 10×10 Activewear edition and see what it was all about.

This brings me to today’s post, which is about how I take items from my activewear 10×10 and apply them to looks for everyday! I received lots of questions about this throughout the challenge and it got me thinking. Some items I’d never even considered mixing into my regular closet but once I began playing around some pretty passable outfits started to come together. It’s always fun to flex the stylist muscles a little, especially after 10 days in workout clothes, so let’s have a look at what I came up with!

In today’s post I’ll be styling the following 10×10 activewear items:

  • Olive Robe
  • Navy Topanga Bra
  • White Organic Tee
  • Red Slim Crop Tank
  • Olive Brami

ORGANIC ROBE – LOOK 1

I had to begin with the MIAKODA Organic Robe for this post because it really was the MVP of my 10×10. It’s such a comfortable fabric (soy, organic cotton and spandex blend) that feels smooth, silky and cozy all at the same time. It was the item I wore every day without fail (I’m wearing it as I type this now!) and I knew it would be great as an alternative to a cardigan/blazer/kimono with jeans and a simple tank. Et voila! This outfit came to be. I love this one for any number of activities. Work, dinner, errands, working lunches, coffee dates, you name it!

I like how this robe keeps the whole look feeling relaxed, whereas a blazer might feel more business and it’s a bit more unique than a typical cardigan. I added a nude clog sandal for some height and a woven bag for some natural texture to tie in with the olive tone. This turned out to be one of my favourite looks in a while! Who says you can’t teach an old style formula new tricks?

Of course I couldn’t help but style this robe two more ways! I love it over a simple jumpsuit like this black Tencel jumper. The materials feel great together and just seems to glide around so easily. I think it works best if worn open and un-belted but I tried it belted and kind of like that too. It’s a little unusual but with the right accessories it’s totally doable for running errands or visiting friends or just hanging out. I dare say this robe is only getting more and more versatile every time I play around with styling it!

TOPANGA BRA – LOOK 3

I’d honestly never really considered wearing this bra outside of a work out environment but I was pleasantly surprised by how well it lends itself to real life once I started trying looks for this post. I’m not typically a big mid drift bearer but this feels quite wearable, especially in this crazy heat wave we’ve had lately. Even though it would take a little convincing for me to wear this out, I really like how the pieces work together, especially the higher neckline with the cropped length and high-waist Florence Pants. I’ve also come to the conclusion that there is nothing these pants can’t work with!

I see this one being great for a fun brunch with my girlfriends or a day of exploring in a sunny city. I really like how the soft whites pair with the navy and the natural tones in the shoes and bag. It’s simple but still makes quite a statement.

ORGANIC TEE – LOOK 4

Style Bee - Activewear For Everyday Style Bee - Activewear For Everyday

Okay, I know, jeans and a t-shirt, not really rocket science, but I had to with this one! This organic cotton tee is just begging to be paired with your favourite vintage (or new!) jeans and I can’t get enough of a good full-tuck. This particular tee is the perfect length to tuck in because it’s not too long or too cropped. Also, the drape of this fabric is what sartorial dreams are made of as it truly wants to work with and not against your styling plans.

This look is one of those easy, everyday outfits that you can rely on time and time again to get you looking presentable with next to no thought or effort. I like to add some contemporary elements like a minimal necklace, a sleek mule and a geometric bag to keep it feeling up-to-date and fresh.

One final note on this t-shirt is that it’s surprisingly opaque for how light it feels on. I am wearing a nude bra here but even over a black bra (as I wore it in my 10×10) it doesn’t show through much, if at all. Such a rarity for a basic white tee! That said, it also comes in black and I am highly considering ordering it with my own discount code haha.

ORGANIC TEE – LOOK 5

Next up, another easy, breezy option for a typical summer day. I don’t often find myself pairing my silk Florence pants with a basic t-shirt but this is one of my favourite looks of them all. I was surprised by how the t-shirt suddenly feels elevated when worn with a silk pant and yet the look is still as comfy as wearing PJs!

I kept the styling ultra simple and went for a basic front tuck (or ‘French tuck’ as Tan France would say) with a few fun accessories and my nude clogs to give it a boost. This look is something I would (and will!) gladly wear for a typical work day at home and then out for some errands and maybe a dinner with Dave. The moral of the story with this t-shirt is that you really can’t beat a quality white tee when it comes to wardrobe staples!

CROP TANK – LOOK 6

Style Bee - Activewear For Everyday Style Bee - Activewear For Everyday Style Bee - Activewear For Everyday Style Bee - Activewear For Everyday Style Bee - Activewear For Everyday

Counting down to our second to last item, we’ve got the crop tank from Beyond Yoga. I could have styled this one lots of ways but as soon as I tried it with my black Kamm pants I felt I was onto something. I immediately loved how the black and the sienna red work together! From there, I added my ivory Harper Jacket to brighten and soften the look up and my go-to warm grey accessories to tie it all together. The resulting colour palette is a new personal favourite and definitely on my radar for fall!

This crop tank is essentially a sports bra but it transitions into regular wear much easier than I thought it would. Plus, it’s ridiculously comfy! The simple shape pairs really well with a similarly contemporary cut like the Kamm pant and they both have a cropped length and clean lines in common. I can totally see myself wearing this out and about during the week and I’m already scheming up some other ways to style the tank!

BRAMI – LOOK 7

Style Bee - Activewear For Everyday Style Bee - Activewear For Everyday

I wanted to have a bit of fun with the Brami Tank. I mean, it’s the result of a bra and a camisole coming together for a great time so why not embrace it? I decided to pair it with my Bel skirt for a bit of a feminine silhouette (and also because this skirt is the comfiest summer piece I own). After last week’s post on my old summer faves I’ve been reminded of how well my Elizabeth slides work with cropped length pieces and they seemed like a natural fit with this look. After that, I picked up my favourite basket bag and tied on a silk scarf for a little extra Parisienne flare without any fuss!

Now I just wish I’d had this look for our trip to Antibes! It is begging for an early morning visit to the farmers market followed by a croissant and café au lait in the town square.

BRAMI – LOOK 8

And last but never least we have this little ditsy floral number that I just can’t stop wearing this summer! Up until recently I’d been pinning the wrap top of this dress closed because it falls so far open but with the Brami underneath it’s completely fine! I actually think it makes it feel a little more casual too, which is nice for added versatility.

As soon as I saw how the leaves in this print matched the olive-green colour of the tank I knew these items were destined for a pairing. Then it was just a matter of buckling up my favourite block heel sandals and filling up my woven cross-body bag from Antibes and the perfect summer look was ready for action.

In fact, I actually ended up wearing this one right out the door after finishing this shoot on Sunday because it was ideal for a backyard BBQ on a hot long weekend!

I’m looking forward to using the term ‘activewear’ a lot less but I had so much fun putting these looks together.

I’d love to know which one is your favourite!

  1. Sophie says:

I love look 5, but that might be because my black linen finally decided it wanted to be made into a pair of wide leg crop pants! 😉

  2. Susan says:

I like Look 1…I think it is a great mix of colors. I have a question about the Florence pants. I’d really like to add a pair to my closet, but I can’t decide between the silk and linen. Which fabric do you reach for more and why? Does one fabrication work better for you year-round? Thanks for any information

    • Lee the Bee says:

Hi Susan, Thank you! That’s a good question about the silk vs. linen. It’s honestly pretty 50/50 but depends on the time of year. I wear my linen Flos a ton in the late Spring, Summer and early Fall and then my silk once in the Fall, Winter (over tights) and Spring but occasionally in the Summer too. So I guess, technically the silk work for year-round best. I’d say the linen reads more relaxed and casual than the silk, which can be dressed up for work or more formal occasions but also worn with a tee and slippers around the house. I hope that helps! xo

  3. Molly says:

Gotta ask: with the bralette/cami, did you need to wear something under it, or was it enough coverage to be worn without anything under? That’s always my struggle with so many of the camis out there!

    • Lee the Bee says:

Hey Molly, It’s opaque enough that you don’t need to wear anything under but if you want a bit more coverage (ie: no nip visibility) you’ll want to wear a strapless bra. I’ve gone both ways with it but prefer no bra as it’s sooooo comfy without. Hope that helps!

  4. Britt Wilson says:

I like Looks 1 and 5 best, but agree with Carol’s comment about the jackets. The robe, the work jacket, and the Harper seem to really elevate each look where they are featured.

Excellent recommendations! Why are good white tees so hard to find!? I haven’t had luck with Everlane or some other basics providers in that department. Thanks for referring us to that one.

Thanks Britt! I am a jacket gal for life that’s for sure haha. I know, it seems like such a simple thing but apparently not! This one is a gem for sure. xo

I’m thinking Look 6, but I love all of your jackets.
